Description
Swallowtail on Plumbago 1.
Artistic rendition with impressionism and texture added.
Papilio rutulus, the western tiger swallowtail, is a swallowtail butterfly belonging to the Papilionidae family. Common cultural depiction often use swallowtail butterflies to represent the grace and free nature of the ineffable human soul. Other concepts associated with swallowtail butterflies are hope, endurance, change, and life.
Plumbago auriculata is from South America and is relatively fast growing. This perennial shrub grows to a height of 36-48 inches with a width of 30 inches in some cases. Imperial Blue Plumbago has light blue flowers that are prolific during the warmer months of the year. It requires full sun but will bloom in partial shade and is frost tender. Blue Plumbago makes a wonderful pot plant or patio plant in areas where frost occurs and the plant needs to be protected.
