California Hooded Oriole - Male and Female. This couple frequently visits our yard and enjoys our sugaar feeders. We named the male "Pretty Boy," due to his brilliant yellow and black coloring. The female are greenish yellow to dull yellow as shown.
Of 24 species of Orioles in the world, 10 are found in the U.S. Orioles are medium-sized birds with relatively long bills and long tails. The Hooded Oriole is found throughout the southwest U.S., from Texas to California. The adult male has a black face and throat and a yellow to orange body with black wings. The adult female is olive-green on the upper parts, yellowish on the breast and belly. In California, the male Hooded Oriole is yellow. Orange County, California.
