Description
White Crowned Sparrow in the Shadows.
Artistic photography. This White-Crowned Sparrow was sitting in the shadows of a leafy bush. I was taken by the way the shadows played upon his natural coloring and texture.
White -Crowned Sparrows have black and white stripes on their head, a gray face, brown streaked upper parts and a long tail. The wings are brown with bars and the underparts are gray. Their bill is pink or yellow. They are similar in appearance to the white-throated sparrow, but do not have the white throat markings or yellow around the eye or bill.
White-Crowned Sparrows appear each winter over much of North America to grace our gardens and favorite trails (they live in parts of the West year-round).
This one was shot in Southern California, but is a fall/winter visitor to our area.
